Children’s Ministries at All Saints’
WORSHIP
People of all ages are integral members of our worship community!
NURSERY
While infants and toddlers are welcome in church, please know that we have a loving and safe Nursery in Gregg House available from 8:30 a.m 12:30 p.m. every Sunday. Many of our parents bring their infant or toddler to the Nursery while they attend the church service and Sunday School. Some bring their infant or toddler to the Nursery at the beginning of the service, and then during the passing of The Peace they “slip out” of church to “retrieve” their child(ren) for communion or blessing. And, some do choose to bring their infant or toddler to church with them for the duration of the service either because they’re not comfortable with leaving their infant or toddler in the Nursery or because they just simply want their child(ren) to be in church with them; and, when they do they are free to exit the church and return at any time to attend to the needs of their child and to keep the child from being a distraction to others.
CHILDREN’S CHAPEL
Offered at both the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. services for three year olds through 2nd graders. We provide a more age appropriate “Children’s Liturgy of the Word” that coincides with the “Liturgy of the Word” taking place in the church. All children attending Children’s Chapel are asked to come to the church with their parent(s) or family member(s) or friend(s) prior to the start of both the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. services so that all will begin the worship experience together in the church. When the church bell is rung just before the start of the Processional Hymn, a banner-bearer will appear at the front of the nave and make his or her way to the back of the nave carrying an All Saints’ banner signaling that the Children’s Chapel Procession is about to begin. When the banner-bearer appears, 3 year olds through 2nd graders are to make their way to the back of the nave in order to follow the banner-bearer and lead the Liturgical Procession. As the Procession begins they will follow the banner-bearer and make their way out of the church continuing their procession on to Children’s Chapel at either the Chapel of the Holy Spirit (1st and 2nd graders) or the open room next to the Chapel of the Holy Spirit (3 yr. olds through Kindergarteners). Please note that children arriving late should be brought directly to their Children’s Chapel location (northeast corner downstairs of Gregg House corner of 27th St. and University). The children will return to church during the passing of The Peace (the exception being when we have a Baptism as then they’ll be brought into the church to be present for the Baptism being placed on the floor near the font for “optimal viewing”).
Specifically, concerning our Children’s Chapel program, the preschool kindergarten chapel service will mirror the chapel service we use for our Day School where they’ll sing, pray and explore scripture stories through the use of pictures & quiet games. The 1st and 2nd graders’ Children’s Chapel will more fully explore the church’s Eucharistic liturgy using an illustrated book designed for this age. The children will learn to participate in the Liturgy of the Word as it is in the Book of Common Prayer, experiencing scripture lessons, a psalm, & homily.
For more information concerning the Nursery or Children’s Chapel please contact our Director of Children &Youth Ministries, Elizabeth Gibson, (476-3589, ext. 115).
We do invite our 3rd - 5th graders to attend church services and recommend that they sit close to the front so they can better see “what’s happening.” We also encourage them to take advantage of the opportunity to sing in our Quin Community Choir at the 9:00 service. Rehearsals are held Wednesday from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Please contact Jim Holmes for more information about the Quin Community Choir atjimholmes@mail.utexas.eduor 899-4556.
While we also expect our 6th 12th graders to attend church services, we strongly encourage them to be involved in our worship by serving as an Acolyte at both the 9:00 and 11:15 services. Please contact Patricia Goubil-Gambrell (374-1121) or Barbara Moeller (301-3162) for more information concerning our Acolyte Program.
