Black History Month Programming

February is Black History Month, and we have lots of events to share!
A screening & discussion of When I Rise will take place on Saturday, February 15 from 1-3:30. This remarkable documentary about a UT music student who finds herself at the epicenter of racial controversy is being put on by UT’s Osher LifeLong Learning Center, UT’s Briscoe Center, and Huston-Tillotson University.
The event will be held at:
King-Seabrook Chapel
Huston-Tillotson University
900 Chicon St
Austin TX 78702
For more details, please see the official flyer and campus map below.
We also want to highlight the programming being offered by Seminary of the Southwest. Here is a link to all of their Black History Month events, all of which are open to the public and most of which will be livestreamed if you cannot join in person.
Additionally, One Human Race are offering an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the history of racism, along with its impact. You are invited to participate in “Who We Are, a Chronicle of Racism in America” at St. David’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You will watch the documentary, Jeffrey Robinson’s Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in American, have lunch, and join a small moderated group for discussion of what this work means for us and our community. The presentation is free and open to the public. Please register in advance at https://onehumanraceaustin.org/ (One Human Race is a ministry of the Myra McDaniels Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians.)
