EYC Mission Trip Update

On the Mission Trip, we volunteered at St Vincent's House in Galveston. When I first saw the building, I thought it looked bad and old and wondered what we were doing there. But after we had a tour and learned everything they do, I was so happy to be there. They are doing great things for their community, providing free dental care, a pharmacy from a closet, medical visits, a food pantry and more. We were surprised to find out all of the different ways people become homeless and the education levels of people who are experiencing homelessness. Ask any of us about our experience at St Vincent's House.
We also volunteered at the Galveston Bay Foundation. They help to clean up and rebuild ecosystems. Our favorite day was when we saw how they are naturally rebuilding the shoreline and oyster population by making oyster shell reefs using discarded oyster shells from participating restaurants in Galveston and Houston. We also collected 5 buckets of trash and found out how important recycling, reusing, and proper trash disposal are. Ask any of us for more information.
