MONDAY EMAIL (3/23/20)
To All the Saints of Austin:
Many thanks to everyone who made yesterday’s Sunday morning a success, and apologies to those who weren’t able to participate because of technical or other issues. For what it’s worth, we are, in fact, learning from mistakes and limitations, and adjusting. I’ll say more about next Sunday’s worship later this week, and we expect to announce a working and stable option available very soon.
A few quick announcements:
THE OLD INSTRUCTIONS FOR JOINING THE DAILY 11AM ZOOM MEETING HAVE CHANGED. If you try to use the older method, it will fail. We invite and encourage everyone in the parish to join our daily 11 a.m. Zoom check-in (though it’s not required), and here is how: First, if you don’t already have it, download and install the Zoom client by clicking or tapping here. You also can install it on any Apple iOS device or Android device by downloading the Zoom app from Apple or Google. Although you can get in without an account, it’s better if you have one. When it’s time to join a meeting with video, click or tap this link. If you’re dialing in by cell phone without video, tap this link. If you’re calling on a land line, call (346) 248-7799, and enter meeting ID 904-192-370 when prompted. If you try to connect at a time other than the daily 11 a.m. meeting, the link will not work, and these directions cannot be used for any other meeting than the daily 11 a.m. check-in. The daily meetings are not held on Sundays because we’ll be together in worship.
COVID-19 CASE AT ALL SAINTS’: We do now have one parishioner who has tested positive for COVID-19. For now, she prefers that we not share her name, but she is in good spirits and otherwise in good health. She has not had recent contact with others in the congregation, and believes that she contracted the virus while traveling. Please keep her in your prayers.
DAILY EVENING PRAYER TONIGHT AT 5 ON YOUTUBE: Please join us tonight and every night at 5 for Daily Evening Prayer at 5 p.m. with tonight’s guest co-officiant Joey Etheredge! Remember that it’s recorded in advance, so you can view and pray with us at your convenience.
FINALLY: “Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive” (Colossians 3:13). All of us are under stress right now. All of us have important needs, and expectations of each other. Most of us are stretched pretty thin right now. I’m finding for myself that I’m having to say no to some requests I’m receiving because I simply don’t have the time or resource to give. I regret that saying no may come across as a failure to care. I do care. But frankly, I need to make some difficult decisions about what we can and can’t do, and while it may seem that another decision would be easy to make, I’m going to have to do what I believe is best and hope that it will be enough. I do care about you, and I do want to hear from you. I may, from time to time, say no to something you ask for. And I still care, and God is still good. I’m asking for your patience with me, and for your prayers that I’ll be patient too. We are gifts to each other.
What follows is a repeat of information I’ve sent before, but it’s still relevant:
Please know that you are free to speak with Cynthia at any time, and I know she’ll appreciate your love and support. Her email address is [email protected]
REMINDER about the Evening Prayer service we’re offering daily at 5 by clicking or tapping here. First, the service is NOT being streamed “live.” The content at YouTube has been pre-recorded. So if you aren’t able to watch at 5, no worries. Watch when you can, ideally later the same evening. Second, I had asked for help creating that worship, but wasn’t clear about what I’m asking for. If you’ve watched it already, you’ve seen that at each service, I’m praying the Evening Prayer office with a different person. If you’d like to be that person and record a service of Evening Prayer with me, you can do it from your home via Zoom, and I’ll email you all the written materials in advance. Aside from the brief impromptu prayers, the entire service is scripted according to the Book of Common Prayer (starting on p. 116), so there’s no special knowledge required. I’d especially encourage existing lectors (lay readers) and Vestry members to participate. Send me a note, and we’ll schedule a time to record a service together.
I’m still far behind managing email backlog, so if you’ve written me and not received a reply, take heart. That said, please feel free to nudge me, and if your message is urgent, please call me at 760-851-4641.
Blessings to you all as we remain hunkered in! Please let us know if you need help or just need to speak with someone.
