Sr. Warden's Message - May 2019
A few weeks ago, my child stepped on an ant hill. After picking them off and dealing with the tears and fears, I got to thinking about what the experience might be from the ants’ perspective:
Things are going just as they always do. Food is brought in and distributed. Work on the new chamber is proceeding on time. Eggs and pupae are being cared for attentively. The colony is growing.
All of a sudden, the foot comes down out of nowhere. The top of the mound is destroyed. Nobody knows what happened. All the ants are scrambling – seemingly at random. The warrior ants angrily rush out to attack. Other ants retreat deep into the colony. Ants that were out foraging come back to chaos they didn’t expect. A few of the ants were crushed by the foot. Meanwhile, most of the worker ants scramble to not only start fixing the damage, but to make sure that all the activities underground are still proceeding. Ultimately, order emerges out of the chaos and the colony and hill continue to grow.
I actually checked a few days later (because this metaphor had already tickled me) and the ant hill was back to being healthy.
Here are a few things that are happening as All Saints’ continues to move forward:
- We are set to begin the search and hire process for the full-time Director of Children and Youth Programs
- Improvements and repairs to our buildings and grounds are proceeding so that we may better serve both our worship and community outreach.
- We have approved a resolution to honor Father Mike’s years of service by providing a scholarship honorarium to either Camp Allen or Camp Hardtner.
