UT Episcopal Student Center
Dear Parish Family —
In pondering how best to share news of our ministry activity so far this year, I am brought to consider the image of Mary and Martha. For, it seems as if the life of this Student Center often modulates within the rhythm of contemplation and action. So far in 2020, our students have engaged in a number of contemplative activities, in order to apply themselves to active ministry more vigorously: a Leadership Retreat led by two Saint Andrew’s Faculty (Grace Ortman, Head of the Upper School Religious Studies Dept., and Adam Ortman, Mindfulness Director); our Diocesan College Ministry Retreat; and a week hosting Br. James Dowd, OSB, of the Benedictine Way Community in Omaha, NE, as “monk in residence.” As a community centered in prayer, we have formed a communications / evangelism task force to discern how to better express a sense of who we are and what we have to offer to the wider campus. We are forming a finance and fundraising committee; and perhaps most importantly, our Vestry has committed to offering daily morning prayer and compline (7:30pm) during Lent, in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit — to which you are all invited to join us! As always, please feel free to contact me with any thoughts on how we might collaborate — and know that we feel truly blessed to be in community with you.
With all best wishes for a Holy Lent,
Travis, on behalf of the ESC
The Rev. Dr. Travis Helms
